The Hong Kong government announced yesterday that former consultant
Jeremy Richard Godfrey has been named as Government Chief Information
Officer (GCIO). Godfrey will take up the appointment on April 7, said
the Office of the GCIO (OGCIO) in a statement.

Godfrey's experience includes a management appointment with the Cable &
Wireless Group in Hong Kong, and two stints with Hongkong Telecom in the
late 80s and mid-90s. From 1998, Godfrey was a partner with PA
Consulting Group in Hong Kong, leaving in November of last year to
briefly serve as an independent consultant.

In the OGCIO statement, Hong Kong's Secretary for the Civil Service,
Denise Yue, said: "Mr Godfrey possesses sound professional skills, solid
working experience in the information and communications technology
(ICT) field and proven management abilities. I have every confidence
that he will bring his wealth of knowledge to the work of the Office of
the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO), and take a proactive
role in championing the development of ICT and e-government in Hong Kong."
