Papermaster will begin work at Apple in April, resolving a tussle over
his employment and perhaps signalling that Apple is considering
designing some of its own semiconductors (AWSJ).
News in a Nutshell (5 November 2008) => Apple is losing one of its key
technology executives. Tony Fadell, a senior executive who was
instrumental in the development of the iPod, is leaving Apple for
personal reasons. Apple said that it planned to hire a high-ranking IBM
technology executive to run its iPod and iPhone hardware engineering
groups. IBM had filed suit against the executive, Mark Papermaster, the
manager in charge of the company's blade server business. IBM said
Papermaster had signed an agreement that would prevent him from
accepting a job with a competitor until one year after leaving the giant
computer maker (AWSJ, IHT).
