A jury in California awarded ORACLE $1.3 billion in damages in its
lawsuit against SAP over stolen software, deeming the German company
liable for copyright infringement. SAP had admitted that a former
subsidiary illegally downloaded the software, but assessed the damage
to Oracle, its arch-rival, at around $40m. Oracle argued the cost was
much higher once lost licence fees were taken into account. SAP is
considering an appeal.
