Government CIO Jeremy Godfrey has resigned before his three-year appointment ends with his last day slated for Feb 12, 2011, said the Hong Kong government Friday.

While Godfrey's term will end in early April, he leaves for personal reasons, said a government spokesperson.

"The government is grateful to Godfrey for his significant contribution to the delivery of the Digital 21 strategy and his commitment to enhancing e-Government services, enriching the government IT program and facilitating ICT developments in Hong Kong during his service as GCIO," said the government in a statement.

Stephen Mak, Deputy Government Chief Information Officer (Consulting and Operations), will act up as GCIO while the government will soon conduct an open recruitment exercise to fill the vacancy, the spokesperson added.
