Think Twice Before You Hit "Reply All"
(The Wall Street Journal, 8 March 2011)

In Brief: Accidentally hitting the "reply all" button when you meant to press "reply" has become an iconic yet relatable faux pas. It can lead to office humiliation, lost friendships, and awkward conversations. One author asks: why hasn't anyone done anything about the e-mail button that has caused so much harm?

Our View: Behind the hair-raising nightmare of accidentally replying all are overlooked reputational and legal risks. To decrease overall e-mail volume and mitigate the flow of a potentially damaging messages, one company in our General Counsel Roundtable places controls on e-mail, including the removal of the "reply all" button from the screen of the company's e-mail program. Because of a thorough communications and training effort prior to implementation, few employees complain about the new restrictions.

How We Can Help: Companies should mitigate potential reputational and exposure risks by reading about IT risk hot spots.
