Yahoo's new boss, Marissa Mayer, banned her minions from telecommuting without a good excuse. The aim was to force workers to interact more with colleagues, and to cut down on skiving. Many firms allow working from home because workers, especially those with families, like it. But one survey of American telecommuters found that 43% sometimes watched TV instead of toiling. Another 7% said they worked in only their underwear or in the nude; reason enough, in many cases, to stay away from the office.
