HK GCIO position opens for application until November 7
By Computerworld Hong Kong staff | 04 Nov 2014

Hong Kong's Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO)
is now hiring for GCIO. A hiring notice from the Commerce and Economic
Department Bureau indicated the position for GCIO is currently available
for application.

Dated October 24, the hiring note indicated that application for the
position can be made via email on or before November 7. The appointment
term is three years, which is renewable at the Government's discretion.

With a salary in between HK$201,950 to $207,950 per month, the GCIO's
major role is to formulate "policies and strategies and overseeing
implementation of programmes and initiatives to drive the further
development of information technology (IT) in Hong Kong."

Local IT industry veteran Daniel Lai (pictured) took up the position as
GCIO since January 2012. His three-year term is expected to expire by
January 2015.

According to a spokesperson from the Commerce and Economic Development
Bureau, Lai was appointed on civil service agreement terms for three
years from January 3, 2012, to be expired on January 2, 2015.

"GCIO is a one-rank grade and the GCIO post is not a promotion post for
any civil servant in the Government. The open recruitment and in-service
appointment exercise for the post began on October 24. We aim to have
the new GCIO recruited as soon as possible," said the spokesperson.
