Je mange, donc je existent

I had very little rest time on Tue & Wed and got a very bad headache after meetings yesterday (Thu).

Managed to go to bed on 12:30am+ and got up at 8:30am... :)

It was around 10am+ when I reached QB and I thought I ought to have a big breakfast today, at McD, despite a grand dinner with ES tonite.

I walked back office at 10:30am+ and a colleague told me not to go up as a scheduled fire drill was upcming.

I completely forgot.

So I went to "ready to eat" to have another coffee and saw some colleagues there.

I went back to my desk at 11:15am+.

And Tiger appeared and he was looking for someone.

We talked about a couple of things, incl. repair at CWB, etc.

I didn't plan to join him for lunch as I was full.

It's now around 2:20pm and I feel hungry.

Sometimes we need some feelings to remind ourselves that we exist.

Pain and hunger could be good candidates.

Of course, if one could derive that I think, therefore I exist, then the person could elevate the self-assurance of existence to a level that few like Descartes can reach. I am not there yet, and I will never be.

Having said that, I am looking forward to a quick bite, before leaving for work, having big dinner, and possibly enjoying an ordinary weekend.

Going out now...

I eat, therefore I exist.

E-mail posting not working

it has been a while since i logged on blogger.com last time

in fact, i found it too convenient to post using e-mail

i first noticed it on friday and it seems that it hasn't been fixed yet

and i just checked blogger.com and there is no way to "report problem" except that there are some forums that you can "discuss"

anyway, given it's a free service, i think we just need to manage our expectation, and fall back to the more traditional way of blogging without e-mail... :)

it's good to remind ourselves that we shouldn't take things for granted...

(well... not just "things", perhaps "people"?)

The Economist

I am writing this while I am waiting for Tiger for lunch. It's 12:15am
when I polled him and he asked for 15 min. Let's see when he will show up.

Since then, I went back and cleaned my inbox and come across the weekly
newsletter from The Economist.
_____

I miss the newspaper.

I started the subscription in 1993-1994 for academic reason. My
lecturer of International Political Economy recommended 2 to us: The
Economist and The Far East Economic Journal. I picked the former
because (a) it's more international, and (b) it's less American.

I have been a regular subscriber and reader since then, and I dropped
the subscription around 2 years ago for (1) it's quite heavy in content
and I didn't have time, and (2) I came across better offer for new
subscription. I was very upset about #2 given that I had been a long
time subscriber. I decided not to renew. And at one time, one of the
staff in Asia office did call me, reminded me of the expiry and asked me
for reason of non-renewal. I gave my reason #2 and he said there's
nothing he could do. But indeed, I didn't need him to do anything.

I am still on his weekly newsletter. I will click and read those get my
attention. Not a lot, nor too frequent though.

And this time I saw the article on Heathrow Airport =>

http://www.economist.com/printedition/displayStory.cfm?Story_ID=10923778

I don't know the airport enough but I must say that I enjoy reading it
in terms of writing style, facts, logic etc. I am not sure if one will
agree with everything (and there's no need) but it's a real pleasure,
particularly when you are hungry and have no other urgent/important
enough matters to attend... :) Or in a more exaggerated way, 15 minutes
of solitude... :P

It's not the end of this post because (i) I haven't finished, and (ii)
Tiger hasn't showed up yet... smile...

Out of curiosity, I clicked and tried to find out comments (5) on the
articles =>

http://www.economist.com/printedition/displayStory.cfm?Story_ID=10923778&mode=comment

Well... they are very different from the comments we typically see in
forums, newsgroups, blogs, etc. I am not sure if they have been
filtered and edited (I believe not, as I think I can add one). The
quality of the comments is very high, in terms of writing, and points of
views.

_____

It's now 12:44pm and Tiger hasn't showed up yet. Will give him 10 more
minutes.

http://baike.baidu.com/view/45293.htm

Songs of high-brow type will find very few people to join in the chorus( qǔ gāo hè guǎ )

價 = 價格
比 = 比例

Post blog/pic by e-mail

It's a bit surprising.

I have been posting to blogger.com via e-mail. It works fine. And I
enabled a couple of people using it... :)

And then I moved to using gmail with mail client (mozilla in my case).
And I enabled a couple of people using it... :P

And then it just happened. By chance, I found that I could use my
mozilla to post to blogger.com, and surprisingly, e-mail attachment can
be accepted and it shows up in my blog. This means posting pics becomes
much easier...

Earlier, we could use Hello to upload in more or less more automated
version and then it broke when new blogger came (integrating the a/c
with gmail). Then we need to upload one by one.

Now life is a bit easier.

答客问

Got a question on how to add a video clip from youtube to blogspot. Here is how it works.

(1) Identify your video clip. Let's use 一個人兩個人 as an example. The URL of the clip in youtube is http://youtube.com/watch?v=btzxprdx5tc

(2) Go to the clip in youtube. The following screen capture is what you see. On the RHS, you can find the code to embed. Just highlight it and do a Ctrl-C. This is the code you need to include in a blog (well... this can be done other than blogspot).

(3) I typically paste the wordy code in a notepad, just to avoid losing it. Of course, this is not a real issue as you can always go back and copy from youtube again.

(4) Go to blogger.com and create a new post. Choose "Edit Html" (instead of "Compose" mode) and just paste the code there. Here is a sample screen shot:

(5) Go back to "Compose" mode if you are not familiar with the "Edit Html" mode. Edit whateve needed and PUBLISH POST.

Your youtube clip will look something like this one:

That's all... Have a try...

P.S. Adding youtube clip to Facebook is easier.
