Wide zoom
Here is a comparison of digital wide zooms for Nikon =>
http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/digital-wide-zooms/comparison.htm and
conclusion is that:
(1) just pick nikon if the budget allows (HK$6K+)
(2) choose tokina which is decent next (HK$3K+)
Note that both are for DX (i.e. not for full frame FX).
And then at the end of the article, the author mentioned that Canon
10-22mm is very good (HK$4K+). Worth taking a look =>

Again, it's an EF-S though (not for full frame)

Finally...
He got Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, hood & Hoya filter from Wing Shing.
And then a Canon 40D body, battery, lcd protector from one store in 298 and 8GB CF from another.
Good for him... :)

I changed my mind
To my dear rich friends:
I changed my mind... I want a Nikon D3, rather than a Canon 5D... :)
Of course, it is good to have both but I am fine to START WITH a Nikon D3... :D

Quote from dpreview =>
The EOS 40D becomes the sixth Canon 'prosumer' digital SLR, a line which started back in 2000 with the EOS D30, and how far we've come. It's been eighteen months since the EOS 30D and although on the surface the 40D looks like a fairly subtle upgrade there's a lot that makes this an even better camera. Of course we expect a step up in megapixels, and so the 40D comes with a ten million pixel CMOS sensor with the same sort of dust reduction as the EOS 400D, an ultrasonic platform which shakes the low pass filter. Other improvements bring the EOS 40D closer into line with the EOS-1D series, these include a move to the same page-by-page menu system, both RAW and sRAW (2.5 MP), 14-bit A/D converter and 14-bit RAW, cross-type AF points for F5.6 or faster lenses, a larger and brighter viewfinder, interchangeable focusing screens, a larger LCD monitor (3.0") and faster continuous shooting (6.5 fps).

Canon 7D
I think there are two sufficient conditions:
(1) Next holiday.
(2) First child.

Unlimited desires @ limited resources
He had the luck to visit Pantry today (Wed).
It was very tempting to join him but my schedule didn't allow.
Left office early today and "took" him to hotpot in Wanchai.
It was a restaurant at Jaffe Road that I haven't visited for quite a while.
I used to go there quite a lot with JRPY.
It's different, newly decorated, with a different name.
It must be different.
JT & I ordered quite a few dishes
- 醉鸡锅
- 肥牛 (so so)
- 鱼片1
- 水饺/云吞
- 菇/菇
- 墨鱼滑
- 虾
- 鱼片2
- 青岛纯生6小瓶 (i forgot, for a total of HK$10 or HK$20)
The dinner costed HK$220 for two. Quite reasonable.
We were thinking of ordering sticky rice but decided that we had enough food. I assured him that I used to eat & drink less... It's just an exception to host him... :P
We then had a walk to look at some DCs. In fact, I am thinking very seriously of getting a Canon 400D or 30D. The price differential is around HK$4K (body+lens, 6K+ vs. 11K+). It's probably a good x'mas present for myself... :)
Strictly speaking, from a build & function standpoint, 30D will be a more desirable one althought it's more expensive. But 400D is a newer member and has more comprehensive features to avoid and clean dust.
Still thinking, very deeply...
Later JRPY told me that he had dinner with his buddies. He met the couple when he had further study in the down under. Apparently he enjoyed the thousand-year eggs very much, more than the roast duck at yung kee in central. It's quite surprising that many people asked to have bbq. There is 1 outstanding for JRPY and the First Lady. Now the couple were suggesting the same. Shall we do it together?
