Bleeding...
2009.07.14
Bought a Fujifilm Finepix F200EXR at $2,480 in Wanchai.
It's interesting that the salesman kept on asking if someone recommended the model to me. Then I found that he thought Nikon S620 is a better model (smaller, lighter, faster startup, faster focus, faster lens, higher iso etc.) which is now sold at the same price as F200.
S620 was one of my choices and I couldnt recall exactly how I eliminated it.
So I just sticked with F200.
And before I left, he asked me to promote S620 and bring friends to his shop!
The following is one of the very first few pics. No editing has been done. I just uploaded it to flickr and picked a 500x375 sampler here:

He got Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, hood & Hoya filter from Wing Shing.
And then a Canon 40D body, battery, lcd protector from one store in 298 and 8GB CF from another.
Good for him... :)

Bleeding
Wing Shing called me this morning and said they got the lens. Without any hesitation I told them that I would pick it up in the afternoon.
So... it's bleeding time again.
Tokina AT-X 124 AF PRO DX
AF 12-24 f/4

It came with a lens hood. I added a filter.
Tokina suggested Hoya Pro1D (low profile, whatever). The guy suggested B+W and he said it is better. I did try. But given that Tokina recommended Hoya (same company?) and I made up my mind to choose Hoya, which is a bit cheaper.

New Toy
It's my new toy, AF Nikkor 20mm f/2.8D.
http://nikonimaging.com/global/products/lens/af/wideangle/af_20mmf_28d/index.htm

I was looking for a wider lens and I was thinking about this one or AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 12-24mm f/4G IF-ED. In Wing Sing, the 20mm f/2.8 costed HK$3,380 and the DX one HK$6,000+ (forgot the exact amount). I was not sure if I wanted to spend 6K on a DX lens and so I bought the 20mm one. But in fact, functionally, the 12-24mm is quite good as it produces 18-36mm on my D80. Strictly speaking, 20mm isn't too wide as it becomes 30mm. But I like that technically speaking it can be used in a film camera and it's a faster lens.
Still need to play around with the new lens. Yesterday the weather wasn't too good. Otherwise I should have done more shooting after the grand Spanish dinner...
Lens HK$3,380
Filter HK$260
Hood HK$100

Obituary
Canon PS S80
Last night heard from AK47 that Canon don't sell the model any more. It's quite unbelievable. Dropped by their site by chance and just found that it's really dead...
Everything that has a beginning has an end.

About Ricoh Caplio R6
Comparison of Ricoh Caplio R6 and Panasonic Lumix FX50/FX30
An interesting feature. It takes 16 consecutive shots and combines them into 1.

Old Dog Learning
It's quite a different experience for using Nikon, versus my 3-year experience with Canon's products.
Frankly speaking, the software ("PP") coming with Nikon is quite basic and disappointing. I did a search on the web and apparently many held the same view.
It took me a short while to go through the key items in the user guie and start shooting. There are a lot of features to play around and I believe, as usual, only 50% is relevant to my regular use.
Having said that, I still haven't got a chance to use the other lens for portraits. In fact, I wanted to try it with the ids in old nest but decided not to. See if someone else will volunteer... :)

- Nikon D80 Kit (w/ AF 18-135 Lens & Case)
- Grip
- Extra battery
- Lens (85mm F1.8D)
- UV Filter x 2 (62mm & 67mm)
- CPL Filter
- Blower
盛惠 HK$XX,XXX。
既兴奋,又肉痛。

Unlimited desires @ limited resources
JT came back to HK on Tue night for a 4-week vacation.
He had the luck to visit Pantry today (Wed).
It was very tempting to join him but my schedule didn't allow.
Left office early today and "took" him to hotpot in Wanchai.
It was a restaurant at Jaffe Road that I haven't visited for quite a while.
I used to go there quite a lot with JRPY.
It's different, newly decorated, with a different name.
It must be different.
JT & I ordered quite a few dishes
- 醉鸡锅
- 肥牛 (so so)
- 鱼片1
- 水饺/云吞
- 菇/菇
- 墨鱼滑
- 虾
- 鱼片2
- 青岛纯生6小瓶 (i forgot, for a total of HK$10 or HK$20)
The dinner costed HK$220 for two. Quite reasonable.
We were thinking of ordering sticky rice but decided that we had enough food. I assured him that I used to eat & drink less... It's just an exception to host him... :P
We then had a walk to look at some DCs. In fact, I am thinking very seriously of getting a Canon 400D or 30D. The price differential is around HK$4K (body+lens, 6K+ vs. 11K+). It's probably a good x'mas present for myself... :)
Strictly speaking, from a build & function standpoint, 30D will be a more desirable one althought it's more expensive. But 400D is a newer member and has more comprehensive features to avoid and clean dust.
Still thinking, very deeply...
Later JRPY told me that he had dinner with his buddies. He met the couple when he had further study in the down under. Apparently he enjoyed the thousand-year eggs very much, more than the roast duck at yung kee in central. It's quite surprising that many people asked to have bbq. There is 1 outstanding for JRPY and the First Lady. Now the couple were suggesting the same. Shall we do it together?
